The reasons why various people choose to join a marathon will vary from one person to another. But here are some common reasons such as to follow through with a resolution that one had made at the start of the year. Many like bragging of having participated in a marathon and this is one great motivator. The greatest one and the most common of them all is that people love challenging themselves and what better to challenge themselves with than a marathon. One does not just start one blindly there is a lot of training and other preparation that have to be made this is why reading tips on how to train for and run a marathon will assist them.

Having the right gear for running this includes the shoes. The right shoe should be light and should be a right fit to ensure you do not get blisters on your feet. If the shoe is new wear it to a race just to feel if it gives you the support you need, if it does not just purchase another.

Apart from running shoes you need to dress the part. It is not recommended for one to run wearing a cotton shirt even if they are provided because you will suffocate in it. A shirt made of nylon is best since it is light and suffocation cannot happen when wearing it. Also wear the clothes before hand to feel if they are comfortable for you.

Being fit on that day is very important. You can only ensure you are fit for a race by running other races. They do not have to be the same length. If you lack a race to participate in, having a couple of your friends race with you is not a bad idea. This practice keeps you fit both physically and mentally.

You want to be comfortable with the topography of where you are racing at. This is why you should run up hills and down valleys if that is the kind of topography that the courses will have. Running a flat area might seem easy but in actual sense it is hard and tiring because you use the same muscles.

One cannot stress enough how important it is to keep hydrated during the race. For those who take it seriously they will take the same sport drink that will be available and also with the same frequency that they will have on the big day. This they can know by asking prior the day.

As the big day comes closer the confidence levels for the runner should also be high. It is for this reason that they are advised to run a similar race either three to four days before the day. This will greatly give their confidence a boost that they really need.

Training can be difficult especially for those who lack the discipline to do so. Training at the same time as when the big race will be is a good idea so that the body gets the rhythm even for the bathroom breaks.
